It has been weeks since Scarlet Heart: Ryeo ended and I’m still reeling over it because of its open-ended last episode. I needed something to pick me up and I thought I needed change, maybe something to read. It has been weeks, or idk months, since I have last read a book, and I realized even more how behind I was when I saw all the nominees of Goodreads book awards and realize I haven’t read a single one of them. Thanks to my random need to remind myself of my reading goals, I was able to come across The Hating Game by Sally Thorne.
I started it expecting a bit because I saw my friends giving it praises and high ratings, a Twitter friend even told me she “loved” it. Now, I think “loved” is a weak word, I think OBSESSED would be more appropriate because this is what I felt after reading this. I was so obsessed I immediately started re-reading it.
This book was the cutest thing ever and it was just what I needed to have at the moment of utter disappointment towards a Korean drama ending lol. It had the right mix of cute and sexy and despite the usual trope, office nemesis-turned-lovers, the characters’ quirkiness and unique voice gave this book a refreshing take on office romance.
Lucy and Joshua’s development to enemies to lovers were developed well, although I would’ve preferred a lengthier witty bickering from these two because those were funny and sexy as hell haha! Nonetheless, everything was great because there weren’t any parts that felt dragging.
The story was short but it was meaty and the way the author wrapped everything up amazes me I wish I could read this over and over again with a fresh mind. Reading this the first time was an experience I would like to have every time I reread this.
Needless to say I recommend this to everyone who hasn’t read this because everyone seriously needs to check this out ASAP. It doesn’t matter if contemporary romance is your thing or not because this book will be your thing after reading. It’s basically everything you could possibly want in a romance book with a side of quirk and cute.
