Hello Sporadicades! We’re back with another list packed with our January favorites. We will be listing our top favorites from K-Dramas, books, beauty products, and more.
My brother and I started the journey of watching this drama together. We rarely do that. He rarely likes any Korean drama, but this one appealed to him. We both laughed during the hilarious scenes, while I cried alone on the sad ones. I was actually sad when the drama ended, but it is something that I can watch again because the chemistry of all the characters were on point. Gong Yoo and Lee Dong Wook should have another drama, and Kim Go Eun is a freaking chameleon actress. Thank the drama gods she redeemed herself from Cheese in the Trap to this!
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo (역도요정 김복주)
I started watching while I was doing my solo travel in Hong Kong. It was something I did at the end of the day, and I really enjoyed watching the leads together. Even the side characters were fantastic. I really hope to see Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk together in another drama. The pairing was amazing. I can’t even put into words how much I love them together!
Legend of the Blue Sea (푸른 바다의 전설)
I am not a huge fan of Lee Min Ho, but Jun Ji Hyun, who became famous for her role in My Sassy Girl, is one of the Korean actresses that I love watching. There were scenes in the drama when she had no lines, but she easily expressed the right emotions through her body language. Also, Lee Min Ho has definitely improved on his acting. And bonus, GOT7 Jinyoung was there as the young LMH. He should really act more.
Oh My Geum Bi (오 마이 금비)
Family dramas are not really my cup of tea, but this one pulled the strings in my heart. The child actress, Heo Jung Eun, was amazing in it. She had me crying in almost every episode. I love how the drama focused on family relationships, and how a person can definitely change for the better.
My current obsession are COSRX products. I cleanse my face with the Low PH Good Morning Gel Cleanser; lightly exfoliate my face using the One Step Pimple Clear Pad; then slather my face with the Natural BHA Skin Returning A-Sol. My skin feels much smoother and brighter after every use.
If you are in the Philippines, and are interested in buying the products, you can order them at Althea. Free shipping for others Php999 and above.
Here’s a video of Joan Kim, where she talked about her Top 10 COSRX products.
Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim
This wasn’t just another medical drama if that’s what you’re thinking. It was fast paced and thought-invoking. Forget about Doctors(Park Shin Hye, Kim Rae Won) because this is what medical K-dramas should be like.
The Legend of the Blue Sea
I was never a fan of Lee Min Ho until this drama, and Gianna Jun, as expected, was amazing with her acting and comedic portrayal of a mermaid lost in the world of humans. There was never a dull moment in this drama, and this drama is worth the hype.
Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo
This drama made me Google who Messi(Lionel Messi) is, and if someone asks you if you like Messi you better think twice before answering because that person may/may not be asking about your feelings lol. If you’re curious why or how, watch this drama! If you’re a fan of bestfriends-turned-lovers, this drama is for you. I’m still thanking the drama Gods for pairing up Lee Sung Kyung and Nam Joo Hyuk for this drama because I can’t imagine a better pairing for this show.
I’ve been looking forward to this drama even before it started airing and I’m so happy it didn’t disappoint. It has everything you want in a drama, and if you’ve never tried watching one I highly recommend you start with this now. This drama made me feel a lot of things I never thought was possible in one episode.
Once Upon a Crime
I mentioned this podcast before on my last post about my podcast addiction but I think this is my fave podcast this month! Its newest theme, Artful Crimes, is really interesting because it not only delves on True Crime, but famous historical figures of the art world too. I really wish a lot more people listen to this podcast!
Looking at Dre and Ella’s picks, I feel like we should’ve combined this part in one since we practically mentioned the same shows but we do have our reasons for liking them so I think it still worked out well ^.^
Weightlifting Fairy, Kim Bok Joo
Just like I don’t often read Young or New Adult books anymore, I’m extremely picky when it comes to high school or college age dramas but I’m so glad I gave WFKBJ a shot! I was a in a competitive dance team in college so I must admit that for me, there was a bit of nostalgia seeing the characters train and focus on something other than…well, their college education. The drama gives you light and fluffy feels with a hint of bittersweetness but at the same time, it dealt with some serious and realistic issues. I agree with both Dre and Ella that the main leads were perfect together but I especially love Kim Bok Joo (the character) because she wasn’t the typical female lead.
This is one of those shows that I adore the bromance as much as I love the romance! Goblin and Grim Reaper is definitely #bromancegoals, yo. To be honest, there are some dramas that I absolutely can’t rewatch anymore (I’m looking at you Scarlet Heart Ryeo) but Goblin is definitely not one of them. I don’t want to give much away because I think it’s crucial that you watch this spoiler-free, but I think this is one of those few dramas that I was extremely satisfied in how everything turned out. On another note, this is one of the best edited dramas I’ve ever watched!
The Legend of the Blue Sea
I feel like I now have a girl crush on Jun Ji Hyun because I’ve been going through her work lately. It goes without saying that she’s an amazing actress who’s not afraid to play characters that are out of the box so I do think I have good taste, LOL. Her latest foray as a mermaid in this drama did not disappoint. Like Ella and Dre, I was also never a huge Lee Min Ho fan but I really like him here not to mention I love their chemistry! This drama is the freshest on my mind because I just finished it but it is now a new favourite, along with My Love from Another Star, which I also recently watched because I wanted more Jun Ji Hyun. Gosh, I really do have a girl crush, don’t I?
