It was fantastic! It’s been a while since I’ve seen an animé movie. The characters from Spirited Away are quite unique and magical.
About The Movie
It started with Chihiro and her parents moving into a new home in the suburbs. During their trip, her father decides to explore a tunnel in the woods. Now, if this happened in real life, I would probably stay away. Tunnel in the woods does not sound inviting. I’d imagine spiders everywhere, or worse. But as they wandered around an abandoned place, she didn’t expect to enter the world of spirits, gods, witches, and humans that turn into beasts.
You may be reluctant to watch animation as an adult, but this movie is worth seeing. It was written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, who also did My Neighbor Totoro (1988) and Howl’s Moving Castle (2004). I never thought I’d love it. It was reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland, where Alice fell into a rabbit hole and everything went from zero to one hundred.
If I compare this to other movies, I’d say it also reminds me of Bridge to Terabithia, Chronicles of Narnia, or even Where The Wild Things Are. I read somewhere that Spirited Away was written without a script. The frames were drawn meticulously by the creator as the story went on.
Even if it’s a 2D animation it was beautiful and it stirs the imagination of its viewers.
