…it was actually pretty awesome.
Now, this will totally show my age but I grew up reading Archie comics so when I heard that they’re turning it into a live-action series with a bit of a dark twist, I was a bit apprehensive about it. Mainly because when I think of live-action Archie, a sitcom automatically comes to mind…like how it was with Sabrina the Teenage Witch, you know?
Riverdale, though, actually bloody freakin’ worked for me! I think I would have watched the pilot episode either way because I was curious about it but I don’t think I would continue on if it was just another teenage sitcom. Maybe it’s because I’m a fan of psychological thrillers but the whole mystery aspect totally hooked me in. This dark version of Riverdale is way more interesting too, and there’s this anticipation on how the characters we knew and loved will be presented. I must say, I never really got why Betty, Veronica and everyone else was so crazy about Archie but with this version…I get it.
I don’t want to give too much away because there are some twists in certain characters but I like what I’m seeing so far. I think the actors match their characters well. Although, I would have to get used to Miss Grundy becoming this smoking hot version of the lovable teacher and so far, I think my favourite character is Veronica which is really surprising because I never really liked her in the comics, but I like how she owns up to who she used to be instead of making excuses for her past actions.
All in all, one episode in and I’m hooked! I’m now banking a few eps to watch one weekend…such is the life of a binge watcher.
